The positions of the aircraft are shown on a screen, and air traffic controllers keep track of them while directing traffic by radioing the pilots of the aircraft. They are in charge of ensuring appropriate aircraft separation to prevent midair crashes and a secure and orderly flow of traffic. The contract’s ARTISAN Radar component will provide corrective and preventative maintenance services, as well as the provision of spare parts, which will be produced by BAE Systems in the UK and stored in Brazil. To support Australian border protection activities, RI&S will upgrade Cobham’s fleet of Dash 8 fixed-wing aircraft to the most recent model of their SeaVue multi-domain surveillance radar. As part of the largest outsourced civil maritime surveillance programme in the world, SeaVue MR will equip the special purpose fixed-wing aircraft that patrol the oceans along Australia’s coastline with long-range, high-altitude surveillance capabilities.
