An assault rifle is a firearm that uses a removable magazine to discharge intermediate cartridges. During World War II, assault rifles were mass-produced and widely used for the first time. An Assault rifle is a magazine-fed, rapid-fire weapon developed for military usage. It’s a shoulder-fired weapon that lets you choose between semi-automatic and three-shot burst modes. European countries have been looking for new ways to combat rising drone dangers. These include techniques for countering both tiny hobbyist quadcopters and larger UAVs. The US has also encouraged European partners to strengthen their anti-drone defenses.

The United States Marine Corps purchased the Smash 2000 system through its Rapid Capabilities Office to test it, and the United States Navy is presently examining the technology for counter-drone requirements on ships. In contrast to previous counter drone systems that employ radar and optical to jam the threat signal, a system is a kinetic approach that allows troops to engage drones with a rifle. Furthermore, assault rifles can be equipped with other equipment such as a silencer or a bipod.

The Army recently granted SIG Sauer a contract for two new soldier weapons: the XM5 rifle and the XM250 automatic rifle. The XM5 will eventually replace the M4/M4A1 carbine rifle for soldiers engaged in close-quarters warfare, while the XM250 will replace the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon. Furthermore, both new rifles will employ the new 6.8 mm common cartridge family as well as a new fire control system. The first unit of soldiers engaged in close-quarters warfare is planned to be outfitted with the new system in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Major factors driving Assault Rifles Market Growth

The demand for fully automatic military rifles is increasing due to the multiple functional advantages they provide, such as uninterrupted, automated, and rapid rate of fire, intermediate cartridge, and reduced recoil, making it the most ideal gun during scenarios such as armed warfare. These will be one of the key market trends that will be driving the market growth.

Trends influencing the Assault-Rifles Market Size

When soldiers use the new artificial intelligence data platform to peer through the sights of their assault rifles, their perspective is converted into a first-person shooter video game. The technology includes a microcomputer in the weapon that processes data and displays it in the rifle’s electro-optical sight and through an optional helmet-mounted eyepiece. Three characteristics will be used to create the system: boosting force survivability, improving situational awareness, and increasing lethality. Working with feedback from ground forces, its layered applications employ a wide range of data, made possible by AI and microcomputing developments that are beginning to make such systems inexpensive. This is one of the primary market trends that is influencing the growth of the market.

    Assault-Rifles Market Forecast & Dynamics

Increasing defense spending will drive the market for new procurement activities and upgrades to existing rifles with newer technologies and capabilities. The increase in defense spending will encourage the procurement of new assault rifles.  Procurement will also be driven by prevailing geo-political conditions in Europe and the Asia Pacific. The Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi will produce around 671,000 AK-203 rifles. In 2019, India and Russia signed an inter-governmental agreement that resulted in the formation of the Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL).

The German Army has chosen Heckler & Koch’s HK416A8 assault rifle as its new assault rifle. The decision came after a protracted battle between the German military company and its single contender for the program, C.G. Haenel. C.G. Haenel was contracted to deliver over 120,000 MK556 rifles in 2020 for 250 million euros ($265.7 million). Heckler & Koch, on the other hand, invoked its right to appeal the ruling, arguing that the competitor’s weapon infringed on some patents. Following a careful assessment, Germany decided to reverse its previous decision and remove C.G. Haenel from the program. The market forecast includes a comprehensive market analysis and market size. Assault Rifles Market Analysis for Recent Developments

The Army has issued a tender for 30k ‘night sights’ so that its US-made assault rifles can aim better in the dark. While an open tender has been published for the procurement of the optical devices, the Army has previously utilized the services of Bengaluru-based Tonbo Imaging. As part of the specifications it has issued to Indian defense firms, the Army is looking at a minimum detection range of 600 meters for a single person walking and a minimum detection range of 500 meters for someone standing. The bidder must instruct people on how to use assault rifle night sights.

PT Republik Armament, a private corporation part of Republik Orp, a holding that regroups multiple companies active in the defense market that was created in 2014, showed a new bullpup assault rifle chambered for the 5.5645 mm NATO caliber at the 2022 edition of Indo Defense. The new weapon is designated as the IFAR 22, or Indonesian Future Assault Rifle, and comes in two versions with various barrel lengths, 20-inch (508 mm) and 16-inch (406 mm), with barrels supplied by PT Pindad.

As part of its modernization strategy, the Indian Army plans to purchase an extra 70,000 SiG Sauer assault rifles (7.6251 mm calibre) made in the United States. The order, worth approximately Rs 840 crore, is expected to increase the firepower of troops stationed along the borders. According to sources in the defence and security establishment, the decision to purchase more assault rifles was made during a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) in New Delhi. As previously stated, these rifles are being purchased to replace the INSAS Rifles (5.56 x 45 mm). In 2019, an agreement was signed with the company for approximately 72,400 Sig Sauer Assault Rifles at a cost of Rs 694 crore, which are now being used by troops deployed along the borders with Pakistan. The Indian Army received 66,400 (7.62 x 51mm calibre) SiG Sauer rifles from the initial order of 72,400 rifles, the Air Force received 4000, and the Navy received the remaining 2000 rifles. The first order was placed under the government’s ‘Buy (Global) category,’ which means that the required equipment can be purchased outright from foreign manufacturers. This procurement was conducted using the Fast Track Procedure (FTP). The rifles obtained by the Army equipped approximately 400 infantry battalions, and public reports indicate that two infantry companies with 100 troops each were given SiG 716. The decision to select the SiG 716 Assault Rifle in 2016 was motivated by a shift in the Indian Army’s operational philosophy, which favored the 7.62mm cartridge. In comparison to the INSAS Rifle and the AK-47 Rifle, the SiG 716 has a longer effective range, increased lethality, and higher recoil. The Army has used Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) manufactured ammunition since its inception, with no reported performance issues.
Earlier reports indicated that the Army had switched to locally manufactured 7.62 MMG ammunition due to cost concerns with the original American bullets. While defense sources downplay its effect on rifle performance, some on-the-ground sources report increased recoil, implying a need for higher-quality ammunition.
